Motion passed by Oxfordshire County Council Executive, 17 February 2004

Genetically Modified Crops

In the light of the terms of the Council's resolution on 4 November 2003
and the current legal and scientific advice summarised in the report, to:

(a) consult farmers and producers who have registered in the
Oxfordshire "GM Free Register", and other representative agencies such
as the National Farmers Union, as to what measures might be feasible to
protect the economic well being of organic and other non-GM farmers and
producers;

(b) authourise the Head of sustainable Development, in consultation
with the Executive Members for Sustainable Development and Transport, to
take take all reasonable steps to secure exemption for Oxfordshire in
respect of any application submitted for the marketing in the UK of a
genetically modified crop if in the particular circumstances of the
application such action appears to them to be justified; and

(c) formally confirm the requirement that officers arranging contracts
for the supply of foods ensure that there is an appropriate contractual
requirement placed upon suppliers of food to take all reasonable and
practicable steps to ensure that genetically modified food is not used
or provided.
