Up in SmokeA dance by the W's from Oxford Youth DanceThe W’s are a group of dancers aged 11-13 years old, based at the Pegasus theatre, and directed by Cecilia MacFarlane. In this work, the dancers have responded to images of incinerators, and of recycling. At the start of the dance, they create a number of incinerators, which then collapse and the rubbish they contain is sorted into piles. Then the W’s split into three groups, each with their own interpretation of recycling, including a dance showing trees being chopped down and taken to a factory, and workers learning to recycle. The W’s intend to create a bigger piece on incineration and recycling that will form part of a schools tour in July. The W’s
